Foam Dumbbell Casting
 Safe Weapon Project

For this project, the goal was to create a safe version of an object that could be used as a weapon.  This safe weapon was created by first making a one-part mold of a dumbbell using a product called Dragon Skin.  Next the object was removed from the mold using a craft knife to cut a zig zag opening.  The mold was then filled with a casting agent called FlexFoam-iT, and a dowel rod was inserted into the center of the mold halfway through pouring the casting agent.  The foam dumbbell was then removed from the mold and the excess foam from the pouring valve was cut off.  The dumbbell was then painted to match the original object using spray paint, acrylic paints, and airbrushing.

Upholstery Project

For this project, a ring of plywood was cut using a bandsaw and a circle jig.  Webbing was then used to weave a bottom layer of cushioning, and it was attached to the ring with a pneumatic stapler.  A layer of upholstery foam was then stapled to the ring, followed by a layer of batting.  Two layers of fabric were then stapled to the ring, one at a time, paying attention to the weave of the fabric.  Finally, a button was created with the same fabric and attached to the center of the cushion.
