Chocolate Cake

This slice of chocolate cake was made out of six layers of upholstery foam that were shaped on a bandsaw.  These layers were spray painted dark brown and then hot glued into three groups of two layers.  These layers were then joined with liquid nail that was spread with a paint spatula like icing.  Liquid nail was also spread on the top of the slice and then piped on the edge of the slice.  The whole slice was spray painted with dark brown again and then air-brushed with black on the icing.  The layers of foam were then picked with a metal stipple brush to make the layers more homogenous.  The icing was then spray painted with a clear glossy coat to add shine and distinction from the cake.  Finally, this piece was gaff taped onto a plate prevent it from moving without ruining the china.

Fried Chicken

This fried chicken was made with a base of aluminum foil shaped into pieces of chicken.  This foil was then covered with EVA foam clay and then a layer of paper mâché.  The adhesive for the paper mâché was dyed with acrylic paint to provide a cream colored base layer.  A second layer of paper mâché was added to create the fried texture.  This texture was made by pulling, wrinkling, and ripping the paper mâché on the second layer while it was still wet.  After the paper mâché dried, the fried chicken was air-brushed with a light orange and then selectively air-brushed with a dark brown to create more cooked areas.

Drafting Paperwork

As the assistant scenic designer for this production, I was largely responsible for drafting elevations and ground plans on Vectorworks from a SketchUp model for the set which was provided by the scenic designer, Michael Sullivan.
